An unusual increase in electricity lead to an investigation of a site owned by a retail estate asset manger. It turned out that the electrical heating of the "ramp floor" in the building's parking garage that goes to the roof parking had been running even during the warmer months.
The original purpose was to ensure ice/snow would melt, so cars would not skid on the concrete floor, however, the automation that controls this stopped working or was deactivated. Essentially, the garage’s outdoor concrete floor was heated with electricity at 7 kW – 24 hours a day.
With this collection, we’re exploring – the often curious – cases of energy consumption in buildings that our customers experienced.
