Artificial Intelligence helps Arbejdernes Landsbank optimize their buildings and reduce carbon footprint

Ento Labs' solution enables Arbejdernes Landsbank to lower its energy consumption and climate footprint annually by more than 100 tonnes of CO2e, corresponding to 12% of the bank’s total consumption - without investments in new hardware.

In 2018, Arbejdernes Landsbank entered into a climate partnership with Ørsted regarding the supply of electricity generated in Anholt Offshore Wind Farm. This means that their electricity consumption today originates from renewable resources. In addition to this, Arbejdernes Landsbank has set ambitious climate goals, e.g. annual reduction of energy consumption in the bank’s building stock.

The desire was sustainable building operations, but the existing solutions were about documentation rather than energy savings

There is significant energy saving potential in the effective operation of buildings in Denmark. But for a busy facilities team with many responsibilities and several buildings, it is both cumbersome and time consuming to find savings by physical inspection or manual review of consumption meter data.

The Facility Management team at Arbejdernes Landsbank was therefore looking for a tool that could create proactive energy savings and documentable results with minimal set-up requirements and resources required. They chose Ento Labs, which offers a solution based on artificial intelligence to automatically identify and prioritize potential savings for their entire property portfolio.

After an online meeting, the most important energy improvements could be prioritized

Arbejdernes Landsbank gave Ento Labs access to their building consumption data through a simple online process.

From there, the system automatically compares consumption data with building and weather data to identify savings. The results were ready less than 24 hours later and were subsequently presented at a meeting before the collaboration was formalized.

The savings could be documented after the first month

Implementation of the energy improvements was largely done by optimization of existing hardware. These were in most cases changed at the centrally controlled Building Management System. In the remaining cases, it was local or external technicians who performed the improvement tasks.

The savings were automatically documented to ensure that the expected effect was achieved. In the Ento Labs system, a building owner or facility manager can also examine the expected consumption - e.g. in relation to idle consumption on weekends, holidays or during the coronavirus shutdown.

Through our strategic partnership with Ento Labs, we can automatically identify and document energy savings in our branches and buildings. This has resulted in an incredible result oriented tool that helps to create change rather than just reporting on consumption.

Operations have been optimized and today consumption in Arbejdernes Landsbank has fallen by 12%

In addition to optimizing operating settings, the indoor climate has also been improved on diligently, which can be seen on the bottom line. In some buildings, consumption has fallen by more than 50% - and for the portfolio, consumption has fallen by 12%.

In a large building portfolio, consumption can always change unexpectedly due to different behavior, technical changes or failing equipment. By having an ongoing automatic monitoring system, you can start early and avoid larger, unexpected increases in energy consumption.
